Nirav N. Thakkar, M.D.

Nirav N. Thakkar, M.D. was born and raised in northwest suburbs of Chicago, and graduated from Lake Park High School. His undergraduate B.S. Electrical Engineering degree is from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.

He attended University of Illinois Medical School at Chicago and received his medical degree in 2008. His five year residency was completed at University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary, Lurie Children's Hospital, Cook County Hospital, NorthShore University Health System, and Jesse Brown VA in Chicago.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Thakkar has maintained a teaching position at the University of Illinois as an Assistant Clinical Professor, and is actively engaged in teaching surgery of the ears, nose, and throat, and head and neck cancer surgery to the residents at the Jesse Brown VA.

Dr. Thakkar is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery and the Chicago Laryngologic and Otologic Society.
He is a member of the medical staffs of the Advocate Christ Medical Center, Little Company of Mary Hospital, Palos Hospital, Silver Cross Hospital, and Jesse Brown VA Hospital.

Dr. Thakkar enjoys treating children and adults within the full scope of ENT problems, including diseases of the tonsils and adenoids, chronic ear infections, hearing loss, nasal obstruction, sinus infections requiring surgery, and treatment of tumors of the head and neck including endocrine surgery.

He completed a fellowship at Northwestern University in Head and Neck Oncology and Reconstructive Surgery. He is now certified in Trans-Oral Robotic Surgery (TORS), which allows for orophayrngeal tumors that were previously not resected due to morbidity of open surgery. This is particularily useful for HPV+ tumors. He is also certified in microvascular reconstruction, which is transferring tissue (typically from the arm or leg) to the head and neck if a large defect exists after tumor removal. He uses the latest techniques for treating complex head and neck tumors.

Dr. Thakkar currently resides in Hinsdale with his wife Nikita, and two sons, Shiv and Rahil.
